I called dad and talked to him tonight.......Wed. December 17
(sunset June 2008 - click to see full size)
He was very talkative.....but I think I finally talked him out because all of a sudden he said "I think I'm going to hang up Melinda," and he sounded like he could fall asleep.
He got up and walked around the hospital floor 3 times today.....and he told some hilarious stories that got me and him both laughing so hard he had a coughing spell. (I will let him decide if he wants to share them with you all, but knowing dad....he will one day whether we all want to hear them or not!) haha
Before discharge they will be moving him to another room as the floor he is on is going to be remodeled. So in the next day or so he will go to another floor and another room.
The "procedure" today was so/so. Some of the stuff apparently squirted out all over the bed and nurse when the doctor was pushing it into the tube in his lung....as the tube had been cut at an angle and the stuff was not flowing in as good as it did the first time. BUT they think they got it covered pretty well. Dad said it did not bother him much this time round.
He is anxiously awaiting tube removal and he hopes they might do it tomorrow. They have to check his x-rays first to make sure his lung is inflated.

Thanks for posting the update, I'll tell people to come on over here and read it. I just talked with him. He said they had just given him some Motrin. He said his pain wasn't bad enough for Morphine plus he thinks that's what constipated him. Joys of growing older. LOL
I don't think they will remove that tube tomorrow. The other time he had the shorter tube in about two days or longer before they removed it. I really don't look for him to get home until Sat. He has to stay 24 hours after the tube is removed. But I let him talk about coming home on Friday, that seems to make him feel better. Love you.
that is such an awesome update - to know you can have a long conversation with him and he is strong enough to listen and then to have a wonderful moment of laughter! Laughter is the medicine of life =) Please give Abraham my warmest aloha

Hi Melinda thank you for the update! I am glad that you were laughing together, for it's a sign of recovery. I hope that you will have your dad back at home at Christmas. I miss his stories and photos of the past.
Melinda:
Thanks so much for the latest information on your Dad. We appreciate it. Am glad things are evolving for the better. Maybe he will be home for Christmas.
Prayers from Panama.

That he didn't feel much discomfort or pain during the TALC precedure is encouraging, don't you think? Sounds to me like they are getting it covered quite thoroughly! And that he can talk for so long without getting winded is alos a good thing. It is so good that you and he can laugh together! I no longer have my dad, and I envy you! There is just something special about a father/daughter relationship. I was very close to my dad, too. I am wishing you all a wonderful Christmas holiday together! My prayers will continue for you all!
(((((( HUGS ))))))
