UPDATE on dad November 28, 2008....

I just called down there. Mom is with Dad now. They are keeping the chest tube in for a few more days. They are going to try to make Dad more portable by hooking his tubes to some other he can move around easier. His lung doctor had not yet been in this morning.

He also now is having kidney stone issues or bladder/kidney infection or both. They are running tests to see what is wrong and how to treat it. He has kidney stones and one really large one that might be causing him problems....not sure if it would be able to pass on its own. It definitely would never make it through a catheter so his bladder would then become blocked and the doctor said he would definitely know if that happened. Then they would have to do surgery to remove the stone!

So when it rains it pours. He sounded pretty good on the phone.....but I know is not feeling great and is in some pain.

Thank you for the update. Your dad and I have "talked" in the past about our kidney stone problems.

But I'm glad he's as well as he is.

I'm sure you're telling him how so many are worried about him. The power of the blog-world is really something.

Thanks again.

Glad to hear what is going on with Abe. I had a kiney stone and it is no easy thing to get through. I do hope things work out well and soon.

I think his reaction to your taking his picture is a great reflection of his wonderful positive nature. Those types are toughies!! I don't know your father and have only been doing the birding blog for a few months but I know your Father is well thought of and his work is incredible. My thoughts are with you...keep that smile on his face, its that sense of humor and the family support that helps one make it thru these times!
