cicadas.......

He was lying on my doorstep....and the ants were trying to eat him? He appeared dead but maybe he was getting ready to shed his skin? I am not sure. I know it looks like he was trying to shed his skin but there was no sign of life in him. AND ants were already inside him and coming out. Do they help eat away the outer skin?

Here are some of my favorite MACRO shots of him:

Did his legs look like they changed positions anytime. It takes them a little while to get out, and also quite a while for their wings to dry out before they can fly.

I think this one died before he got out. They usually never have other insects (ants) around them when they shed their skin or shell. We have had several around here this year.

You got some outstanding photos of the cicada. I can't wait, sometimes, to see what I can do when the new Lumix gets here. For some reason they are not going to ship it until tomorrow. Don't know why. So I might end up going to the fair without it.

A Coopers Hawk was here for an hour or so this afternoon and I ended up with 290 photos of him trying to flush out the birds. He did finally get one to leave but don't think he caught it.

Later, the birds were still hiding when I went outside and as I scuffed the soles of my shoes, they would take off. Lots of them were still hiding.

I have a piece of one picture to publish in the morning.

Hi to Noah.
