EVENING update on dad November 28, 2008

Mom and Dad's anniversary July 12, 2008

Dad got his catheter removed.....and they are waiting on culture results to find out for sure whether it is a kidney or bladder infection and then how to treat it.

They attached a shorter tube to the chest tubing and attached that to the new portable machine so he can get up and walk around.

He DID get up and take a walk or two.

The chest tube will remain in there over the weekend at least.

The doctors came in to see him. They have all said his lungs are pretty bad....but the one doctor said he had seen some improvement in them since he was admitted. At least he felt there had been. Dad may have to go home on oxygen for a few days or so until he regains his lung functions/strength back which might be a process..because a lot of the tissue in his lungs has been damaged from the emphysema.

Mom and dad still don't know for sure what his options would be if this ever happened again....but I think the doctors are hoping this sticky stuff creating that seal inside his lung will work and hold for a very long time. I imagine the only other option would be surgery...even if they would not want to perform it.

Mom said dad and her watched a movie in his room today on the television and dad really laughed a lot...so he was in better spirits and feeling better it sounds like.

I will go see him again tomorrow or Sunday....maybe I will have some new photos after that.

I'm glad that the powder process is helping..

It will be a process for your Dad to recover. It seems anything to do with the lungs can take months. I was hospitalized with severe pneumonia and I was told 6 months to get back where I was. I was on oxygen for a while at home especially at night...Tell Abe to take it easy and ask LOTS of questions of the docs and make sure you get the answers that you need. The more you ask, the better idea you will have where his medical condition stands.

Have just returned to PNG after a month in Australia after the death of my beloved sister-in-law (from melanoma). It has been very difficult for us all but I do know the love and support of family and friends is the most precious thing we have in life. It is the glue that holds us together and keeps us going when we think it is all to sad and too hard.

Please pass on my love to your Dad - he is missed around the blog world and I know his strength of will and the love of his wonderful family will see him up and around real soon.

Sounds like things are starting to move in a more positive way now for him. And remember what they say....Laughter is the best medicine. I was told at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore that your mental well-being has a lot to do with your physical well-being. In 1983, at age 38, I was given 6 years to live due to lupus, and I'm still here! So keep your dad laughing! Bless his heart....he's a good man and a loving husband and father. Tell him we all miss him and are waiting to see him back online again!

Prayers for him and your entire family....

Stopping by the Arkansas Stamper's blog today and she had a note to come here - so here I am. That's a wonderful picture of your Dad & Mom on their anniversary. Please know that we are sending up prayers for all of you!

I have bookmarked your blog so we can get updates on our beloved Abe.
Now for a bit of advise which may or may not be welcomed. Take it from someone who has lost both of her parents, never be too busy to call or visit because when they are gone you wish for one more visit or call. I would give anything for either.
Peace be with you.

I just want to let you know that I
knew your Dad from his blog and from his comments from blogs we visited together - he is an interesting person I'd like to meet someday. More than that, I am amazed at his fighting spirit. If nothing else, I am in awe of his guts and I envy him for having you as a daughter. More power to your family and I hope he recovers fully. I am not a religious person but my wife is.....our prayers are with him.
